Owners of last years flagship under the HTC name — the One M7 — are finding a new software update rolling out over the air. The new build number is 6.09.401.11 and it’s an innovative version of Android 4.4.3 KitKat. As you almost certainly know, the buzz around Android lies with 5.0 Lollipop at the moment. However, the M7 is still far from that since it’s yet to have the last stages of KitKat. The Google Play Edition of the M7 is finding Lollipop coming soon along with the One M8.
For now though let’s focus on what’s in store for the M7 owners in the new software update. The new version of KitKat comes with bug fixes and important enhancements with phone calling, according to the official change-log. That’s all it says. If you are a frequent phone caller to your family and friends this is one you don’t want to miss.
As usual, OTA’s roll out to owners in periods, meaning it doesn’t come at the same time for everyone. Some of you are already finding the update available while others will presumably wait into next week. All of you will find a system notification coming in automatically which alerts you when it’s ready to download and install. If you are away from the WiFi network at home it’s advised by the official HTC team that you put the installation on hold for a later date. Once on WiFi, users can stopover at Settings > About Device > Software Updates and install the 193 MB file that way. Moreover, by doing so you avoid any unwanted mobile data charges. HTC is advising customers to skip using the mobile data because the network has high traffic from the amount of people installing the same software update.
Those among you wanting to err on the side of caution should backup the operating system before starting. You can look at Google’s own Google Drive cloud storage service which offers a limited amount of free space if you are running out of internal memory.
We are hoping for your opinion after the new software so leave comments after you are running the latest version and tell us what you think. Were you experiencing issues with phone calling before today? Are the issues fixed now for you?
