The month of July is proving an extremely busy time and it’s about to get even more hectic if you own one of the Xperia devices namely T2 Ultra and T2 Ultra Dual. The model numbers for these two smartphones are D5303 and D5322 respectively, the only difference between the two being that the Dual is obviously referring to its Dual-Sim capabilities.
Sony Mobile Communications promised these two handsets Android 4.4.2 KitKat after many owners were scared it wouldn’t be receiving the version of Kitkat because they are developing a reputation of spitting out a lot of smartphones in quick succession and failing to update the older ones. We have lots of nice things to say about them with the G3 but acting that way with software is not a good look.
As I previously mentioned the build number attached to the T2 Ultra is 19.1.A.0.473 while the Dual-SIM variant comes with numbers 19.1.C.0.116 for the software. On both accounts, this firmware is coming and is already certified thanks to the PTCRB. We even have proof for each case when we look at the pages here and here.
To serve as a refresher, Android 4.4.2 KitKat comes with immersive mode that takes away the status bar from the screen when viewing content in full-screen mode. It has new Emoji packages to use when texting, it has a new landscape keyboard. The notification tray uses a new font and it better suited to the overall Kitkat feel. The Easter Egg updates to show the new numbers. Furthermore, there’s wireless printing, the camera app shortcut on the lock screen, translucent navigation bar, white status bar icons, improved notification slide, better media controls, better multitasking and improved battery life. Moreover, there is also a video player closed captioning for Google and Samsung subtitles.
There’s no word on how soon the official OTA release date will begin, but we are confident it will happen within the next few weeks. If you notice the alert coming over the air, as a notification, please leave a comment because that will mean the rollout is commencing.
