Over the weekend AU Optronics, the Taiwanese manufacturer of TFT LCD and other technologies, have unveiled a Quad HD display with a pixel density of 513 ppi. This dishes out a screen resolution of 2560 x 1440 and is far ahead of what we see today.

It is very exciting because we have said for a long time now we believe Samsung are working on a QuaD HD display for a prime galaxy S5 due out later this year. That turned us off the idea of buying a plastic version that has just been released. However, after seeing the current S5 in person and on other tech blogs, I can safely say that the general conception is that the screen is of good display quality. That will either mean one of two things: the new Quad HD will be amazing in comparison to what we are witnessing today, or they have developed extra technology is existing displays and the distinction is not as significant as we first imagined.

Facts are facts though and if we go by the specs this new high-resolution screen from AU Optronics is amazing and it all, but confirms that this technology is on the way to our smartphones in the near future.

The interesting thing here is that AU Optronics are directly linked to developing screens for Samsung smartphones so this very leak that we see could be the exact technology that we see in something like the new Galaxy S5 prime. For now, it is still only a rumor but there is only so many coincidences that can happen before the cat is officially out of the bag.

The company also known as AUO is no stranger to being first out with technology. Back in 2012 we saw them introduce to us the world’s thinnest bezel display. Roughly one year ago today they introduced to us the first s-inch 1080p OLED display.
