The Amazon Fire Phone comes with a 4.7-inch display, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, a 13 megapixel rear facing snapper and is great value for money if your main strategy is buying a new smartphone with fast mobile data support, high RAM, Quad core processor and a large display. That said, it is getting older now and if you are getting bored with touring around the stock operating system you might prefer installing custom firmware.

Since this device is not getting timely updates, you want to check if third-party developers are creating custom firmware which boosts the OS to newer version such as KitKat or Lollipop.

Before we advance that far it’s best to check out the essentials. That way you know what you are doing, everything you need, and what to do to get out of trouble. There’s also more links included to sources which you might find useful toward the end.

  • Enable the USB Debugging mode. The FP has its own version of Android OS namely the v3.5. You can still access the debugging mode after the guide here for Lollipop.
  • Backup the device by using a trusted third-party application from the Google Play store. We prefer the Helium application above all others. That said, there are loads of other great options. You can use any of them.
  • Usually we insist you use a Windows PC for most guides. However, that isn’t the case here. You can transfer the files from any operating system on any computer, notebook or laptop, so long as it comes with a working USB slot in the side.
  • You must connect the smartphone to the side of the computer and set up a connection that way.
  • Don’t start unless you have enough battery power to see through the flashing. You are not staying connected to the desktop PC during the guide. The rooting package is taking over the operating system independently on its own without a USB connection when we run the program.
  • The Amazon Fire phone was one of hour favorite smartphones last year which came from an unorthodox manufacturer. Most people lack respect for the Amazon name without understanding they are the largest online retailer.

Nice One! That’s all you need to start flashing custom ROMS and installing extra applications from GPS. There’s at least fifty apps worth installing. Some of them can help with performance such as boosting the GPU and overclocking the CPU. Otherwise are just fun and useful to use. There are no limits!
