The Samsung Galaxy A3 is the baby in the new A-series. With that being said, it still does run the Android 4.4.4 KitKat the other models also have going under the hood. Neither of the mare finding the latest Android 5.0 through to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop at the time of writing this guide. If you own the A3 and want to know how to open up the system internals with root access in Android 4.4.4 KitKat, follow the steps below.

The following guide is for those of your running Android 4.4.4 KitKat only. You likely will find a future over the air software update which updates the operating system to Android 5.0 Lollipop or above. You should look for a new version of the guide containing different files when that day comes.

Samsung Galaxy A3

BEFORE WE BEGIN

  • You should know that there are several different model numbers under the Samsung Galaxy A3 smartphone name. The following guide is only for the SM-A9000 model number. You can check what model your device is by turning it on and stopping over at the About Device menu directly from the Settings menu.
  • You must enable the USB Debugging mode so you can connect the phone to the computer. Do that by turning it on, tapping the Settings > Developer Options and checking the box for USB Debugging.
  • We are using the official Odin application made by Samsung. It only works for Windows PCs. Do not try installing the app on a different operating system as it doesn’t work and can harm your device.
  • Check there is adequate battery levels remaining on the device before starting the guide. You don’t want it shutting down before the flashing process finishes. Doing so can harm your device.

HOW TO ROOT THE SAMSUNG GALAXY A3 SM-A9000 IN ANDROID 4.4.4 KITKAT

1. Download the CF-Auto-rooting package from the link here.

2. Download the Odin 3.09 app from here.

3. Download both files to the desktop of the computer.

4. Extract the files on the desktop and launch the Odin app on the computer.

5. Boot the A3 in Download Mode
– press the Volume Down + Power + Home buttons simultaneously.
– press the Volume Up button after you see the warning screen.

6. Connect the smartphone to the computer with the USB cable.

7. Wait for the Odin tool to turn the ID: Com port blue.

8. Leave the re-partition box empty.

9. It should show Auto Reboot and F Reset Time boxes as on.

10. Leave all other settings as they are by default.

11. Click the start button.

12. Now the Odin tool will flash your device.

Reminder: If Odin is telling you it is failing, you should try downloading the USB drivers again.
