The year 2014 is giving us all a ton of devices to assess and more so than usual. Today we see that trend continuing further with this spy shot press render of the G3S, an apparent sister handset to the original G3 that comes with dual-SIM capabilities. What’s that you ask? It means that in countries where it is against the law to not have an original SIM when entering you have that spare one up your sleeve. Many places in Europe roll like that and if you don’t change the SIM card before you cross the borders you can get in a great deal of trouble for your efforts.
That’s not such a tremendous deal back towards the US and Canada, where those laws are not in place, but that’s not the only reason to own a Dual-Sim phone either. Some people just enjoy having a work phone and a personal phone so they can separate their two lives. Others simply need the separation because having them both together is too much to bear and serves as an information overload.
Although the shot only gives us a render we are confident that the smartphone is coming because it is Evleaks who has published this picture and how often are they wrong? It’s rare, very rare.
We’ll have to wait for official confirmation but from what we can tell the new variant will come with many of the same specs that landed on the original. It sports a 5.5-inch display, 1440 x 2560 pixels screen resolution, 538 ppi and IPS LCD technology in the display. It weighs just 149 grams, runs Android 4.4.2 out of the box and it will have a few software updates rolling out OTA presumably in quick succession to have it near the Android L release which is coming soon.
About the only difference that is noticeable is the carrier availability. The original G3 came out for Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T, but all of those are US-based. The new G3S is not coming to the United States as far as we can tell so it won’t hit any of those phone carriers at all.
Moreover, if you like a big display that is a high-resolution display, extremely high pixel ratio, the processor as Quad-core, high-resolution camera, NFC and fast mobile 4G support then this is one handset you will want to look into more.
The original saw a release date of May 28th which is one day after it was first announced to the world on the 27th of May. We may see a similar deal here again with this variant.
