A new software update is rolling out to the folks in Germany with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The firmware build number is N910FXXU1ANK4 and it comes with bug fixes, stability improvements, enhanced or new features and performance improvements. Putting that in Layman’s terms, you will have a device that functions better than before. It is faster and smoother when browsing through the OS. No official change log is provided with this build. They don’t go into any specifics with what new or enhanced features means. Therefore, if you are up and running the latest software update we’d appreciate it if you leave comments with any of the features you’ve noticed changes.
Since we already understand that most of the goodies from the KitKat name come under the earlier Android 4.4.2 KitKat update such as white status bar icons, cloud printing, new Emoji faces, updates to the Easter Egg, full screen album art from the lock screen and a new locations menu and more, don’t expect much by the way of features before we see Android 5.0 Lollipop.
If you notice bugs in your current build number and are generally dissatisfied with how it’s operating, it’s always a great idea to update as soon as possible since there’s every chance a fix is in place for you.
As you probably know, these updates rollout in periods to everyone with the aforementioned device. That means some of you will already have it coming in as a notification, others will get it later today and the rest will see it tomorrow or some time during the rest of next week. That’s a rough time estimate based on the upgrade being more carrier specific and not a global release where there’s a great deal more people.
If you are anxious about the release you can anytime navigate to Settings > More > About phone > Software updates > Check for updates and peak if it’s available. Furthermore, it naturally arrives as a notification coming to your home screen. From there you can install it by choosing to “download now” followed by “install.” Otherwise you can put it on hold and browse through to the settings at a time when the installation suits you.
It’s best to wait until you are around a stable WiFi connection since the mobile data comes with more charges and uses the data allowance. Moreover, you want to avoid high mobile data traffic from others installing the same update as you. If you do decide to follow through with using the mobile data, it’s a terrific idea to take a backup first.
Additionally, the file is available for a manual installation with Samsung’s Odin application. You already know what to do: download the Odin app, open it up on the desktop, enable USB Debugging Mode, have the LG Drivers up-to-date and boot the Note in Download Mode by pressing Home + Power + Volume Down keys. Connect the Note 4 to the Windows PC and watch for Odin to pick up the device. Now upload the file here to the AP button, don’t adjust any of the default settings and click the start button when you are ready to start the flashing. Wait for the phone to automatically reboot and you are running the latest N910FXXU1ANK4 firmware.
