The Nexus 5 is now launched in the color red manufactured by LG and is available from Videotron, and although there’s much deliberation over the exact shade of red, it looks great to us in all the different types we see from viewing press renders and hands-on experiences. There are pictures around the web that make this red look rather dull, and then there’s other websites calling it “bright” and their picture does show that to back it up with a high gloss. Our advice is to head to the Videotron store and look at one of the phones out of the box to get a proper feel for the color in real life.
Because the Nexus 5 is a Google phone, the Google Play Store was selling these last month. They are really cheap at $349 for the 16GB version and $400 for the 32GB model. The downside of all of this is that they sold out really quickly, and no carriers can afford to sell them this cheap which means when you do eventually buy them from Videotron or any other place that will be picking them up soon, your’s will cost more. That doesn’t mean you’re getting a bad deal, however, because the Mountain View company makes them and they could afford to sell them really cheap.
Rather than buying the mobile outright, it’s a good idea to get a 24 month plan. Videotron is doing the 2 year deal for $69.95 for the 16GB model and the 32GB will be priced slightly higher than that. It’s also worth mentioning that Google looks after the Nexus range of devices very well, and they are always equipped with the latest operating system. You can expect the Android 4.4.2 KitKat coming out of the box in this case.
Telus and Wind mobile are also getting the Red Nexus 5 coming soon, but it is only available from Videotron today. There’s also a strong possibility of other Canadian phone carriers selling this handset in time. Right now these are the three confirmed names.
Just to refresh your memory, the Google Nexus 5 has a 5 inch display with a screen resolution of 1080 X 1920 pixels. The pixel density is 445 ppi, and it’s made from IPS LCD technology. There’s also a 8 megapixel camera on board with LED flash. The camcorder is 1080 HD so capturing all those special moments will come in great quality. Where this handset became great value was in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 system chip with a Quad core, 2260 MHz, Krait 400 processor. It also has 16 GB of built-in storage.
Earlier rumors from Phone Arena had this mobile coming on the 4th of February. That obviously turned out to be incorrect. The first press render leaked late January.
