If you haven’t yet heard of Yotaphone, it won’t be long until you do. Yotaphone aim to bring out the first ever two-sided phone, meaning their isn’t a back panel any more, but rather another screen on the other side. The new handset is arriving before the holiday period, soon enough to become a Christmas present for many.
The front is the usual LCD display, but the back is a new technology called e-Ink. The e-Ink is electronic ink, bistable or electronic paper.
The normal back side which is the eInk will be good for web browsing, while the other front is for all the usual things other than that. In all honesty, if there’s ever been a gimmick before, this could topple it. We fail to see how flipping a phone is even any easier than clicking a button to open a browser on the already existing side. Further, to keep two sides clean, let alone from smashing would be a nightmare. We are predicting lots of warranties taken out will be the extended type for this phone.
To go along with the dual screen will be a Snapdragon 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM and a 13MP camera on the (side possibly). The operating system is the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean until any further update is available. There still hasn’t been given an exact date, other than in time for Christmas.
Dating all the way back to December of 2012 was when we first heard about this phone existing. They held off the production for a full year it seems, which is never a good sign. That being said, it’s gotten the green light to go ahead, so they obviously think it can make some noise. Only time will tell on that front. A month later at the 2013 CES it was shown off again ,and it did get a good reception. Once February came about, it was given a manufacturing deal which would see the project take flight heading into the second half of 2013. Now coming to the end of the year, it is finally ready for release.
